Is Krispy Kreme's glazed doughnut halal? (And is there really a new one in 2026?)

Short answer: we found no real 2026 launch of a new Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut— the closest current news is a Hershey's-branded "Chocomania" collaboration, which is a chocolate glaze, not the classic Original Glazed. What we did find, checking Krispy Kreme's own published ingredient listings: the classic Original Glazed doughnut itself is mushbooh, not a clean halal, because of one common, easy-to-miss emulsifier.
What's actually in the Original Glazed doughnut
Krispy Kreme doesn't publish the Original Glazed's full recipe (it's treated as a trade secret), but current US retailer listings (Kroger, Stop & Shop) and Krispy Kreme UK's own published allergen and nutrition book list mono- and diglycerides of fatty acids among the emulsifiers — the UK listing names them directly, alongside soya lecithin. That's a real match for HalalCook's rulebook rule sub-mono-diglycerides(confidence 0.73, editorial review): E471/E472 can be sourced from plant oils (halal) or animal fat, potentially pork (haram), and the source is almost never declared on the label or the retailer listing. It's one of the most common mushbooh ingredients in processed food generally — present in most commercial bread, margarine, ice cream and baked goods — not something specific to Krispy Kreme.
That makes the honest verdict mushbooh (doubtful), not a flat haram— the rulebook is explicit that the presence of E471/E472 alone doesn't mean it's pork-derived, just that it needs verifying. Krispy Kreme's published allergen statements cover wheat, egg, milk and soy — they don't disclose the emulsifier's source, and we found no halal certification for Krispy Kreme's standard US or UK menu.
What to do with that
Per the rulebook's own replacement notes for this rule:
- Ask or check for halal certification— that confirms the E471/E472 source directly. We didn't find one for Krispy Kreme's standard menu as of this writing.
- Make it from scratch— a homemade glazed doughnut using whole ingredients (flour, eggs, butter, milk, oil) skips synthetic emulsifiers entirely, so there's nothing to verify.
A halal copycat recipe
We added a homemade, halal-checked copycat version to HalalCook's catalogue: halal copycat Krispy Kreme-style glazed doughnuts. It's not Krispy Kreme's actual recipe (that one's secret) — it's a standard yeast-raised glazed doughnut, checked ingredient by ingredient. The only two flags on it are the vanilla extract in the dough and the glaze (mushbooh at minimum, per a different rule — is vanilla extract halal?), both with a simple alcohol-free swap already suggested.
Check any recipe, not just this one
Paste any doughnut or bakery copycat recipe into the free halal checkerand it'll flag ingredients like this one automatically. Here's how the verdicts are built in general: how HalalCook checks if a recipe is halal.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a new Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut in 2026?
We checked and found no confirmed 2026 launch of a new plain glazed doughnut. The closest current news is a Hershey’s-branded "Chocomania" collaboration, which uses a chocolate glaze base, not the Original Glazed. If a real new glazed-doughnut launch is confirmed later, we’ll update this page.
Is Krispy Kreme’s Original Glazed doughnut halal?
Mushbooh, not a clean halal — it typically contains mono- and diglycerides (E471/E472), an emulsifier that can be plant- or animal-derived, with the source not disclosed on the label. It’s not confirmed haram either; it needs halal certification or scratch-baking to resolve.
Ruling traces to HalalCook's maintained substitution rulebook — sub-mono-diglycerides (confidence 0.73, mushbooh-until-verified, editorial review; not a completed external Mufti panel certification). Ingredient and allergen details checked 28 October 2026 against current US retailer listings and Krispy Kreme UK's published allergen book; formulations vary by market and change over time — check the current label. Krispy Kreme is a trademark of its owner; HalalCook is not affiliated and makes no claim about Krispy Kreme's own halal status beyond what's stated above. HalalCook is pre-launch, launching 25 January 2027 — join the waitlist. If anything here is out of date, email support@halalcook.appand we'll correct it.
